The obvious choice when you decide to sell your book is a used bookstore. Used bookstores’ inventories are based solely on books that they purchase from customers, so they are always researching for new books and are purchasing new books for their shelves everyday. If you are an avid reader then selling your books to a used book store can also earn you store credit that you can then turn around and use in the store to purchase your next great read.
Inevitably there will be books that your local used book dealer will not want to purchase. Book dealers usually decline books because there isn’t a market for them in your area, or because the book dealer already has several copies of the same book in their inventory.
For books that your local book dealer won’t take you may want to turn to the Internet. There are a variety of auction sites, as well as sites dedicated to just the sale of books on the Internet. You may want to search around to find the best site to place your book.
If you don’t care how much the book sells for you may want to place it on an auction site; if you have a strict amount that you would like paid for the book then a website dedicated to the sale of used books may be the answer.
These types of websites allow you to place books up and name your own price. When someone is interested in your particular book they will email you and then you will arrange for payment and shipping.
If you cannot sell your books to a used bookseller or on the Internet then your best choice is probably to try and sell your book at a garage sale. Put your books out at a sale of either your own or your neighbors and see if anyone would be interested in purchasing them. Chances are you will be able to sell at least a few, the rest you should probably give away or put back on your bookshelf.
