In order to read e-books the most important thing you need to have is a personal computer or PDA that you can download the book onto, and leave the book for the duration of your reading. Most e-books will only allow you to download them, and access the book from one computer or PDA, so you want to download the book to the location that you are going to want to read it from.
Obviously, whatever you are choosing to download your e-books onto is going to need to have Internet access. You will not need to be online while you read e-books, but you will need to be able to have internet access for long enough to download the entire file. If you have the ability to connect your computer to a high speed internet connection the download of your e-book can go much faster than if you rely on a dial-up connection for your internet usage. Your connection speed will not affect the quality of your e-books, only how quickly you will able to download them onto your computer or PDA.
In addition to a computer with Internet access you will also need adobe acrobat reader or a comparable program to read most e-books. If you don’t already have the program installed on your computer many sites that sell e-books will offer you the program to download directly from their site for free. If the e-bookseller doesn’t have a copy of the program you can find it on a variety of other websites for free by simply doing a search.
Before you download an e-book, and pay for the privilege of reading it you may first want to download all of the necessary software to ensure that you won’t end up downloading a book that you can’t read.
