Getting books published

You’ve written the perfect novel and now you would like to get your book published. Having books published under their name is one of the great dreams of most writers. There are a variety of ways you can make that dream come true, and you don’t have to wait to find an agent or a publisher to do them.

1. Self-Publishing – More and more writers are opting to self publish their first few books nowadays. Self-publishing requires that you have a decent amount of money to put into the book, and can make the first sale of your book a difficult one. You would find a publishing house to print your book, and then you would be in change of distribution to bookstores, and getting your book reviewed and seen by the public. The publishing part is easy, but the marketing side of your book’s sale can be what makes or breaks a novel. You may try self-publishing a few copies of your book, passing the book around and seeing what the public reaction to the book is. If you get glowing endorsements from a variety of people- particularly important ones - you might be able to find a larger distributor or publishing company that would be willing to pick your book up, publish it under their name and market it for you. You’ll lose some of the profits that you would have made if you continued to publish the books yourself, but you will also save money in distribution and marketing costs.

2. Online publishers- there are several small online publishers who will be willing to publish your book and make it available for purchase online at a per copy rate. This can save you money because you won’t be required to purchase large quantities of your book that you may or may not be able to sell; the site also takes care of all of the shipping of your book so you are free from that responsibility as well. The downside of online publishing is that you will more than likely not make much of a profit off your book, if any. So, where as you get to bypass all of the expenses you also bypass all of the rewards.
